Fannish update - follow up
I'm re-posting with a bit of edit to the last list - just to keep myself updated on the fannish stuff I so need to do.

Editing:
♦ Star Trek (2009), Kirk/Spock (~ 26.000 words)
♦ NaNoWriMo 2011, XMFC modern day AU, Charles/Erik (>50.000 words)
♦ Mutant School AU pt 4 XMFC Charles/Erik modern day AU [started] (appx 5,500 words) (Has now the working title of: "Bars,Brawls and Babysitting", Summary: In which Erik needs a bloody keeper and Steve fails miserably at babysitting duty.)

Writing:
♠ Mutant School AU pt 4 XMFC Charles/Erik modern day AU [started]
♠ Coffee series next part/FINISH THE BLOODY THING! XMFC Charles/Erik modern day AU [started]
♠ Have another (if tentative) look at the XMFC kinkmeme [don't even think about it!]

Fanart
♣ Actually sit down and spend 10-15 minutes every evening with the sketchpad

Hey, it's an update - considering how bloody knackered I've been lately, I consider one change in the lists a major achievement LOL. Of course there's the editing phase now - which a. I hate, and b. I'm not sure the story is half as funny as it was meant to be XD

I should be coding
As I realized a while back I'd forgotten to recode both sentinel and smallville for my website LOL

However, I spend the evening watching Q.I.and wiping drool off whenever I come too close to tumblr. Incidentally, I read a fic the other day where someone had written 'tumblr' instead of tumbler (for drinking) - I may have snorted my coffee - it was uncomfortable and a waste of good coffee LOL

I give you... what I've been drooling over the last ten minutes...

question
I believe I recall someone in fandom mentioning someone IM'ing people and asking them to write fanfiction for him/her.

It's a few years back - anyone remember?

One of my presents...
Hi guys - thought I'd share a bit of the loot here *g*

Earlier, I got the original Planet of the Apes box - all the old movies *g* - which I've had my eye on for ages.

D, friend I have from work gave me a fridge magnet saying "keep calm and call batman" - the only DC character I've ever liked *g* and it did crack me up.

Then [personal profile] nora_charles gifted me with a package of speciality dark beer - like stout and porter - om nom.

Nicci and the familyl gave me a bathrobe - one I will adorein the dead of winter where I really don't keep the flat all that warm (because the heat makes me sleepy)

Now Bex... Bex did me a Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr sketch. How can you not love her for this?

Sorry, it's not as such scanned in - so the quality is a bit off - just took the picture with my mobile phone.

Mornin' peeps.

I'm currently at airport with plenty of time to spare and if all goes according to plan, we should have takeoff around 8.05 in roughly 1 hour.

Remembering to bring the recipe
Hi peeps,

just putting up a recipe I promised Nicci I'd be making when I come over (Yes, it's past 1AM, yes, my train leaves at 3.40AM, NO, I've no intention of sleeping)

Chicken with coconut (kuku paka)

For marinating the chicken

1.45-1.5 kg/3 1/4 - 3 ½ lb chicken, skinned and cut into serving pieces.
1 tablespoon peeled and finely grated fresh ginger
4 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed to a pulp
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the sauce

180 g/6 oz tomatoes, chopped
140 g/5 oz onions, peeled and chopped
2 bird's eye chilies, chopped (piri piri)
2 tablespoons freshly grated coconut or grated frozen or desiccated
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ground cumin
3 tablespoons corn or peanut oil (I occasionally use whatever I have - like sunflower seed oil)
400ml/14 fl oz can of coconut milk, well shaken
1 tablespoon lemon juice

the how to... )

Sherlock Holmes
My jaws are still aching from laughing so hard.

So here are my expectations with the results in italics

1. I expected to be entertained
Are you bloody kidding me?! I haven't felt this entertained in AGES.

2. I thought I'd find the story a bit boring.
Yes and no. Let's face it, the plot wasn't all that, but it didn't really matter!Plot was never an option, Charles. It was no worse than the first Sherlock Holmes movie.

3. It will be slashy
Ah.ha.ha.ha.ha. *snorts coffee and wipes eyes* Fuck, Sherly, you and Watson are SO married and if I ever have a stag party, you're hired to forget about it plan it.

4. It will be beautiful cinematography.
It was absolutely gorgous

PS. the movie has SO many one liners, I can't even begin to choose my favourite. I'll have to watch it again (and again). I can not WAIT to watch it again.

Saturday Night Recs - AU all the way, baby!
I've been enjoying the Xmen FC fandom for a while now, and realized that I should probably start listing some of the stuff I've been reading (and some of the artwork as I have already)

Fanfic

♥ A Curious Carriage of Crystal and Cold by Etharei
Charles, a miner from a poor village in the countryside, saves the life of Erik Lehnsherr, scion of a successful business family and the richest man on Eisen. Charles is a telepath and somewhat anxious about it, while Erik abstains from relationships because the lights flicker and doors open and electronics vibrate when he gets too excited.

Also features a long-suffering sister, a foul-mouthed bodyguard, and a best friend with a heart that is definitely not gold.

In which there are princes, spaceships, long journeys, and old secrets uncovered. (An AU sci-fi fairytale)

Why:
Because I'm such a sucker for romance, for stupid boys (it's one of those stories where you want to take one guy and hit the other with, for being so bloody oblivious) and I love sci-fi from the bottom of my heart.

@ AO3

♥ How To Be Co-Ruler Of Your Own Country Without Really Trying (series - 2 parts) by luchia
Summery of part 1 - Three kinds of learning
Erik intends to recruit Raven's supposedly amazing, all-powerful older brother. Instead, he finds himself dealing with Charles Xavier, a weak, tweed-addled professor who seems to think powers don't matter nearly as much as personality. Erik's misconceptions are blown apart when Raven goes missing.

Summary of part 2 - The Stuff National Anthems Are Made Of
Charles and Erik, unintentional co-rulers of the newly-formed Independent Sanctuary of Genosha, have a multi-national navy surrounding their island. Charles takes on the UN, leaving Erik to take on fatherhood and a brand new kind of responsibility, and together, they take on the first true enemy of Genosha.

Why:
Because both parts of the series made me snort coffee, snigger, go 'awwwww' and then start all over again with the snorting. And if a story can make me snort on purpose - then it's a keeper.

@ AO3 (series link)

Fanart

⋄ Have you ever looked at a tiger? (mystique) by Cylin

Why:
Because I love the glint to her eyes and because I'm blown away by the dynamics and the details of the blue scales

1st vignette - Candlelight, XMFC
Title: Candlelight.
Fandom: X-men First Class
Pairing: Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr
Category: modern day AU, humor, teasing
Rating: PG13 (Charles' fault, I swear!)
Summary: In which Erik proves that Charles can make a sexual innuendo of anything.
Prompter: [personal profile] oneiriad
Prompt: lucia
Note: this is set in the same universe as the mutant school AU you can find on AO3 and my website. All you need to know is that the opposing sides of the war have reconciled, it's a modern day AU setting and while neither Charles, nor Erik are the leaders of the two 'sides' they work together as teachers at the school.

Rec XMFC fic
You know how you have an idea, write it for the nano - put it away because you have a secret santa to do (intending to edit and have it betaed over xmas) and you open AO3 and find you've been... well, not jossed, but close to LOL

Ages ago, I asked for an XMFC/Indiana Jones AU on one of the xmen kink memes. When there wasn't really anyone stepping up with a fill for it, I thought, hey, that's an idea for the nano - wrote it and when I opened AO3 I found one of my old favourite due South writers (thehoyden) having written X marks the spot - you know how you read it, love it and then look at your own 'to edit' folder with the damned nano in it? Yeah, that *laughs*

No, I know a fandom can have more than one story with the same inspiration and mine's vastly different in many ways, but it may delay the actual editing work on it *g* (mind you, it would be insane to think I could edit 50K over Christmas - what with me in Scotland, with Nicci and me doing stuff with her family - not to mention watching Merlin and Sherlock)

As for your prompts earlier in the month - worry not - I'll be starting with that tonight, methinks - as I received the first beta round of my secret santa story the other night and decided to just get that done so my lovely beta reader could have another go at it (I think our deadline is the 21st - note to self, do check that, because it would be bad if it was earlier and I turned mine in late!) - I'm also thinking, if she doesn't mind, I'm totally keeping her. She's a 'mean' beta (hey! not enough of those around! I for one adore a good, thorough beta reader)

12 days of Christmas
Or rather, 12 days of fic.

As I'm currently waiting for my beta to get back with her comments on the secret_mutant, I wanted to do a little writing exercise between here and Christmas.

I need 12 prompts. I haven't entire decided if I stick to one fandom, or if I'm going to go wherever the prompt takes me. It'll be drabbles, and they will be singular. No sequels of any sort.

So, prompt me. Words and terms etc. until I've got 12 of them.

ETA - prompts so far:

[personal profile] snickets: Silent Night.

[personal profile] kabal42: Chest.
